Dan ignored her, electing to turn his back and continue walking towards the steps. Holly had a way of being overly melodramatic
"Aren't you gonna SAY anything!?" Holly had turned her attention to Mike and Tom who just stood behind her, a few feet from Dan and continued to watch from a distance. Tom shrugged. Mike opened his mouth to speak but words seem to fail him.
"Don't bring them into this. This is my life, my choice...MY consequences." Dan turned and walked back towards Holly. "No one ASKED you to tag along!" He glanced up to the others "None of you."
Holly grabbed Dan's right hand, twisting it and thrusting the sleeve up towards his elbow, exposing a red raw patch of skin on the inside of his wrist, the tattoo spelling out 'Forget' barely recognizable now beneath the scars and flaking skin.
"Is this what you do it!?" She screamed. "WHO are you trying to forget....what do you want to forget?!...or do you just want to be forgotten?" A tear had built in the corner of her eye. Dan glanced up for a second and clenched his jaw as the impact of his actions started to break through to him. He wrenched his hand away, pulling down his sleeve and turned back towards the stairs. Cheers could be heard from behind the door at the bottom. "You wouldn't understand." He murmured.
"How can you expect any of us to understand when you never let us in!!" Holly continued to scream at him, the sobbing heavy in her voice. She sniffed back the tears, and wiped them from her eyes. Composing herself she walked up to Dan and rested her hand on his shoulder, pulling ever so slighty.
"You walk down those stairs, " she started. Dan looked at her hand on her shoulder. Holly continued "and you'll never see me again. You've chosen a life I no longer want to be a part of.
Dan reach out and gently gripped her fingers. They were cold, damp with tears. he took her hand and turned to face her. She smiled a little, but Dan merely lowered her hand into her pocket and took a few steps backward. Holly's expression turned into one of incredulation as the weight of Dan's actions suddenly dawned on her. She opened her mouth to speak but Dan shook his head. Holly started to sob a little more, turned and quickly walked away. Tom ran after her. Dan watched him a little before turning once again to face the steps. The night air bringing with it the stench of the city, the booze, the decay, the hopelessness of the even to come. He heard footsteps and Mike stood beside him. Mike cleared his throat, and when he spoke Dan could tell the emotion was getting to him a little.
"I'll wait for you...here." Mike said quietly. Dan walked down the stairs and placed his hand against the door.
"No you wont." He said over his shoulder, pushing open the door and walking inside.
The door closed behind him, and from this side Mike heard a bolt lock it from the other side. Mike's bottom lip quivered and a single tear rolled down his cheek.
He turned away from the door and looked up the street. He could see Holly and Tom a fair distance away. He turned the other way and started to walk, drawing his phone out of his pocket and dialing three numbers....999
ANYTHING ELSE? • This will be my first RPG outside of the videogame world. I like the premise and the setting and I hope I can do the site proud by participating.
